The Transcarpathian Local History Museum (Uzhhorod)

The Transcarpathian Local History Museum functions since June of 1945,and is based onі  the Uzhhorod Castle of the ХІІІ-XVІІІ centuries. The collection comprises about 110 thousand items that acquaint us with the long history and culture of our region..

The expositions, depending on the subject, are united into separate funds, collections and sections:

- the section of folk art with a particularly rich collection of musical instruments;

-the section of spiritual culture and history of religion;

-the section of nature with an interesting collection of minerals and herbariums;

-ethnographic funds with a collection of more than 2,000 embroideries;

- one of the largest in Ukraine collection of bronze handiworks - around 3,000 items, most of which date to the XIII - XII centuries BC;

-a numismatic collection;

- a collection of firearms of the ХIV -ХХ centuries.;

- ancient manuscripts and others.

The most valuable exhibit of the Transcarpathian Local History Museum is undoubtedly the Uzhhorod Castle of the ХV-XVІІІ centuries, which is the oldest and most valuable historical and architectural structure of Uzhhorod.

The Transcarpathian Local History Museum was granted official status when Ukraine became independent.
